Hi - I joined the site a few weeks ago and am still feeling my way around it. There's so much to read and so many photos to look at, I have to tear myself away sometimes. I've posted a few photos and plan to keep posting them. I've asked for a few galleries to be added, so hopefully I can add some from places people haven't seen yet.
I admit that I'm a zoo fanatic, addict if you will, but I wouldn't go to a 12 step program if one were offered, because I don't want to be cured! I've been to several hundred zoos, wildlife parks, aquariums, etc. in the US and some other countries. I've made several cross-country zoo hopping trips, visiting more than 20 zoos in 2 weeks. I've also made zoo hopping excursions to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Scandinavia. Also, I've done some travel for work and other reasons, and try to get to any zoos I can.
We visited several animal places when I was a child, but my parents were definitely not the fanatics I am. I suppose I really got started in 1976 when I backpacked Europe with a couple of friends. For example, in Vienna, they went to the opera house, and I went to the zoo, etc. The London Zoo small mammal house was my first exposure to many of those animals.
Over the years, I have volunteered and also worked as an instructor at the Phoenix Zoo, but for the last few years my work-related travel got in the way of that.
I'm an avid collector - can't help it, it's in the genes. I have a large collection of zoo patches and am always on the lookout, especially from zoos I've visited but who didn't have a patch when I went. I like to trade patches, and of course haunt ebay. I do also buy zoo pins and guidebooks from the zoos I visit.
I also collect these wonderful animal figurines from an artist in the UK named Adam Binder. If you want to have a look, his webpage is Adam Binder Experience
Well, I should have rambled on long enough by now to have put any reader to sleep.
