Hello from Essex, UK

Hi all, great place you have here, I have been to loads and loads of zoo's over the past 25 odd years. Only went to Colchester on Wednesday for the 7th time. I'm a massive fan of Hyena's, Aardwolf's, African Hunting dogs and Aardvarks to name a few.

I'm going to get some of my pictures from Colchester up asap, and then sift through all my other zoo's.

Anyway, nice to be here :)

Welcome, markymarc1979.

Have you visited Tropical Wings Zoo near South Woodham Ferrers? It's got a small collection that includes marbled polecats.

I went to Colchester Zoo a few weeks ago, just before the striped hyaena left. I quite like hyaenas and want to go back to Berlin's Tierpark, which has all four species.

Thanks for the welcome, Yes I have been to Tropical Wings, great little place and great fun for the kids!

I was quite sad the striped hyena's have gone, I forgot to ask where they went, I love the pair they have at Africa Live (especially Stella the tail-less one!) They have a nice Aardwolf at Edinburgh and a lovely Brown Hyena at Port Lympne, but it's a bugger to photograph he/she knows you want to take a picture and hides or run to quickly.

I went to Berlin zoo about 15 years ago when I was doing my A-levels I recall a brown Hyena, but don't remember any others.

Thanks, MarkyMarc1979

On 8th August, Jordan-Jaguar97 said “Sabir the Striped Hyena has left the Zoo for Bratislava Zoo in Slovakia”. This was a shame, as Sabir alternated the enclosure with spotted hyenas and the spotted hyenas always seemed to be on show when I visited. Oh well, at I saw Sabir.

Thanks for the info Dassie Rat,

The spotted Hyena at Afica live (Stella and Lea) are my fav's in the UK they are always striking a pose! Plus Stella (I think it is) has no tail which makes her stand out.
