Copt Hall , Hawkhurst , Kent ..... This was home to the Private Animal and Bird Collection of Major Henry Fothergill ..Henry Fothergill 1837 - 1914 ... He was from the Fothergill family that ran Aberdare Iron Company in 1864 Henry sold up his interest in that business to his brother Richard ... Once he had sold up he begun the life of a "Victorian Gentleman" he travelled the World until he returned in 1877 and settled in Hawkhurst ... He Married and spend the rest of his life devoted to his 10 acres of land , Garden and Animal Collection which included Kangaroos , Grey Squirrels , Emus , Rheas , Cranes , Geese , Ducks and Golden Pheasants ... Henry passed away on 1st October 1914 ... the picture shows Henry with his Rheas in 1914 the year he passed away .. Henry was a member of the Amateur Menagerie Club
