Wow! A real old-fashioned forum...and an active one to boot. Cool!
I have always been an animal lover and enjoyed visiting zoos, but lately I have been getting more into zoos themselves- how they function, their landscaping and architecture, habitat design, etc. It started with me getting really into Planet Zoo (I've been waiting for a good successor to Zoo Tycoon for yeeeears!!), and then starting to watch a lot of zoo reality shows (The Zoo, Secrets of the Zoo, Mega Zoo, etc). Now I've started making even more effort to visit zoos whenever I travel.
Here in DC, we have the Smithsonian National Zoo, which I visit as often as I can. For me, the highlight is (of course) the pandas, but I also love seeing the clouded leopard, and all the cute little guys in the small mammal house. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and vividly recall the openings of Northern Trek and Australian Adventures. They just announced a long-overdue remodeling of the bear exhibit, so I'm excited to see how it turns out!
