hi i would like some advice

hi i am new to this site, im anne 52 and live on a 4 acre smallholding in west cornwall, i have a big 50ft by 12 ft greenhouse and i would like to turn it into my own personal tropical house for white cheeked turaco's as they are my ultimate favorite bird, i currently keep 2 male giant wood rail and a pair of common agouti, the question i would like to ask is
What equipment, plants and other birds and animals would i need or in the case of animals and plants be compatible with turacos as i would love my own personal tropical house lol, call me sad but i love animals and tropical houses and have a huge greenhouse and thought why not, could people come up with lists of equipment, animals and plants i need many thanksx

I was wandering if you guys could make a list of animals and plants and equipment for my tropical house,i would like to expand further into having tropical birds and exotic pets, many thanks

Dear anniebaines,

I would love more than nothing else than to send you an extensive list of every single bird, mammal, reptile and amphibian and combination of such that has been housed in captivity. form this you could narrow it down to something you like (or possibly i could chose for you?)

Also i can make an extensive list of all the garden plants available in the UK that are non poisonous. And again, make some suggestions, for your consideration.

Do you plan on keeping invertebrates and fish?

Also equipment - I've been ringing a few suppliers in your neck of the woods regarding artificial heating required etc however i will need the following information to properly manage the project on your behalf...

Budget. How much money do you have to spend.

A complete list of the equipment you already have. Is the greenhouse custom built or is it factory built? i will need a complete set of measurements parts etc. I will need to know the north, south orientation, your precise location in Cornwall etc.

A complete list of the plants already in the greenhouse (latin names please). This would help me save time by excluding plants you already have.

Are there any animals that you have had bad experiences with? dislike? could you please create an extensive list of such, again to save me time by excluding them.

I would also be interested in those experiences. If you care to put them down. Whats you budget for animals too by the way?

Shoot this stuff through and i'd be happy to help.

I don't know what is available, but if you want tropical birds consider starlings (superb, emerald, golden-breasted), bulbuls, fairy bluebirds, etc. I would keep the collection down to smaller birds and tropical doves/pigeons at first. Many of those should be compatible and I'm sure at least some exotic doves and starlings are available if turacos are. If you are unsure if a species would work well with others, you could build a separate aviary within the greenhouse for that species. That would probably be the best idea if you would like parrots.

Just some thoughts.

hi

Hi i just thought i would let you guys in on an update, after careful consideration i decided not to use my green house as an aviary as it is unsafe for the birds they can fly into the glass and it gets too hot in summer and too cold in winter, anyway i did get some turacos i had to go to Bristol for them but i got them yay :) , anyway i have got a an aviary built it looks really professional its 15ft by 12ft,made by my son with my help, i have stocked it with my giant wood rail now only one as i lost my other one sadly :( , I have got two female white cheeked turaco that is all i can find at the time but i am hoping to get a male or a pair in the future, i have 5 pairs of zebra finch, and a pair of white cheeked bul bul , i also have built a small pond in there and have a pair of carolina duck, they are truely beautful, although they do make a mess especially when its raining., however i love them all, as for the green house i have put tomato plants in. My aviary is well planted and has lots of perches and rocks and nest boxes and stuff like that it also has an inside shed area. It looks beautiful, i will put a picture in if i can, i have to take one first and dont know if you can upload pics on youre posting
anyway thats my gossip
loads of love Annexx
