This is a new zoo that opened on 15-7-2020

So far it seems to have: Raccoons, Bearded Dragons, Prairi Dogs, Some saltwater tanks, porcupine and petting zoo species.

From their website I noticed it mostly is an expansion to their playground.
But it is concidered a zoo!

it is located in Eibergen.

Hof van Eckberge has been working on a master plan/collection plan in recent years. It is planned that the zoo section of the park will have a total of six themed areas. Work is currently underway on the first theme area: South America. This will focus on the Amazon region of Peru.

This new area will replace the former enclosures for raccoons, bearded dragons and macaws. The raccoons and bearded dragons have moved to other zoos. The macaws will have a place in the new area along with 7 new animal species. Sources of inspiration for thematising the areas include the zoos Wildlands, Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover and Pairi Daiza.

In a podcast series started by the park, the design, construction and details of the new area are discussed. In the four episodes so far, the designs have been shared and discussed and the first three new species have been revealed. These are the Goliath birdeater (Theraphosa blondi), six-banded armadillo (Euphractus sexcinctus) and southern tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla). The latter two will live together in the area's largest outdoor enclosure, which will be designed as a dried-out riverbed.

The Southern tamandua will be the first species in which the park will participate in a breeding programme. Among the animal species yet to be unveiled is a second species with breeding programme included. The zoo also applied for EAZA membership last year.

Blog posts and podcast episodes about this new area can be found on the zoo's website: Nieuws uit het park

In the latest podcast episode, four more new species were revealed for the new South America area. Anthony's poison arrow frogs (Epipedobates anthonyi) and Amazon tree boas (Corallus hortulana) will share a large terrarium.

The other two species, the green iguana (Iguana iguana) and the Goeldi's marmoset (Callimico goeldii), will also share an indoor and outdoor enclosure. For now, these are the confirmed species, but they hope to add some more. But until these are certain, the park does not want to reveal anything about this.

Any updates on the Peru area?
Due to construction delays, the opening has been postponed. No specific date has been given but they hope to open it this spring. Main reason for the delay is some changes in the plans that - as they say themselves - will make it all even better.

In recent months, there have been a number of more updates. For instance, new designs have been shown. And there has been a change of a species for the area. Instead of the green iguana, there will be red-footed tortoises (Chelonoidis carbonarius).

Other news from the zoo is that the saltwater aquarium has been removed. The aquarium needed an expansion both for the animals and the technology, but there was no room for it at its current location. The fish have been moved to Wildlands and Artis. The reptile house also has a new species as of this year: the William's dwarf gecko (Lygodactylus williamsi).

My question is, why not both iguana and tortoise in the same enclosure?

Or have the Tortoise with the Goldie's marmoset
The plan was to keep the green iguana with the Goeldi's marmosets. But in consultation with other zoos and experts, it was decided not to do so. Therefore, the marmosets will now share an enclosure with red-footed tortoises.

Novu Mundo, the new Peruvian Amazon region in Hof van Eckberge, has now officially opened!

With 9 animal species (8 of which new to the park) and a big, central mixed habitat, the small Peruvian-themed village covers 700 sq. meters and includes a "walkthrough experience", with the various different huts housing interactive educational elements on coffee plantations and how they can be harmful to the environment.

Animals include:
- Linnaeus's two-toed sloth
- Paraguayan tamandua
- Six-banded armadillo
- Goeldi's tamarin
- Harlequin macaws (already present in the zoo, they're Ara chloropterus x Ara ararauna hybrids)
- Garden tree boa
- Red-footed tortoise
- Anthony's poison arrow frog
- Goliath tarantula

I'm hoping to visit as soon as I can so I can take a photo report, but it looks gorgeous!

The Peruvian themed village complex looks wonderful, with loads of cool details everywhere. For a new zoo, which only just opened in 2020 during the heights of Covid, to build such an exhibit is fantastic.

Agreed, it's an extremely high-quality exhibit up to the standards of Wildlands or Burgers'. Just makes me salivate at the thought of what this zoo may one day become. The only thing that seems a bit odd to me is that they decided on three nocturnal species usually held in a controlled environment like a greenhouse or nocturnal area for an outdoor enclosure
