Shorebirds are fighting for their lives in Australia, as the nation's wetlands and coastal estuaries continue to be swallowed by development.

Experts believe as humans spread their towns and cities over Australia's estuarine environments, the competition for coastal habitats is becoming more intense, putting many species at risk of extinction.

There are too many 4 X wheel drive vehicles, driven by people who either do not think clearly, or could not care less about the environment or wildlife. These often interfere with both resting and nesting species along our shores, not to mention the damage caused to the often quite fragile places the vehicles are driven through. I know of several places near where I live in NSW where many species of waders etc., used to be seen in summer and that now have very few birds come to visit. Little terns were able to breed successfully in places that now hardly see any of these birds. ( Not always because of 4 X wheel drivers of course). People walking uncontrolled dogs don't help either!
