I didn't think I had a particularly prpductive zoo-year until I actually made this list...
1. ZOO Antwerpen
2. ZOO Planckendael
3. Loro Parque
4. Tenerife Monkey Park
5. Zoo Neuwied
6. Opel-Zoo
7. Zoo Frankfurt
8. Gaia-Zoo
9. Avifauna (Alphen-aan-den-Rijn)
10. Parque de las Leyendas (Lima)
11. Safaripark Beekse Bergen
12. Oceanário Lisboa
13. Zoo Lisboa
14. Acuário Vasco da Gama

A few prospects for 2023 would be some more French zoos (Beauval...), revisiting Valencia, hopefully some southern German zoos and Edinburgh zoo!

Here is my list, the amount of days I’ve spent at each zoo are in brackets (I’ve done it as days and not trips as I visited some collections multiple days on the same trip) and the N indicates that this zoo was new to me.

Twycross Zoo (1)
Highland Wildlife Park (1)
Edinburgh Zoo (3)
WWT Washington (1)
Northumberland Country Zoo (4)
Yorkshire Wildlife Park (1)
Dudley Zoo (1)N
Cape May County Zoo (1)
Busch Gardens Tampa (1)
The Seas at Epcot (2)
Disney’s Animal Kingdom (3)
Seaworld Orlando (2)
Discovery Cove (1)N
Belfast Zoo (1)N
Chester Zoo (1)

A total of 24 days at 15 zoological facilities.

Here is my list (bolded zoos are places that I visited for the first time this year):

UNITED KINGDOM:
- Colchester Zoo (1)
- London Zoo (2)
- Horniman Museum (5)
- Exmoor Zoo (1)
- Chessington Zoo (1)
- Hawk Conservancy Trust (1)
- Hemsley Conservation Centre (1)

NETHERLANDS:
- Koninklijke Burgers' Zoo (1)

BELGIUM:
- Zoo Antwerpen (1)

Total: 9 Zoos (14 visits)

Overall, a fairly average year for me in terms of numbers alone, but there are two positive takeaways - it is the most countries in which I have ever visited zoos in a single year (3), and the second most new zoos that I have ever visited in a single year (5).

Next year will hopefully be a little better. If the weather is promising, I will start it off with a visit to London Zoo, with visits to Isle of Wight Zoo, Magdeburg Zoo and Tierpark Hagenbeck hopefully occurring by April.

Denver Zoo (August)
Brookfield Zoo (September)
Lincoln Park Zoo (December)

There will be objectively more trips and more zoos in 2023, I'm happy to say. This is probably my first time matching three in a year.

Over the past couple of years on ZooChat I’ve doubled the amount of zoos I visit a year and almost doubled the number of zoos I’ve visited since the start of 2021, so thank you all for making me love zoos and animals even more.

As for next year, I have a very exciting city trip planned in the Spring which will include my first zoo visits outside of the UK. Other than that, I’ll see where the wind takes me.

I have visited the following zoos this year (first time visits are in bold):

The Netherlands:
1. Artis (150, since I did my internship there)

163! That's nearly every other day! I'm guessing you visit several zoos in one day? That or you've become a professional zoo visitor.

This was my best year for new zoos since spending half of 2017 in Europe. First time visits to 12 collections, and returns to a further 7:

New:
Cairns Aquarium
Birdworld/Kuranda Koala Gardens
Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures
Wildlife Habitat
Armadale Reptile and Wildlife Centre
Caversham Wildlife Park
Perth Zoo
AQWA
Auckland Zoo
Hamilton Zoo
Wellington Zoo
Orana Wildlife Park

Repeat visits:
Melbourne Zoo
Healesville Sanctuary
Werribee Open Range Zoo
Adelaide Zoo
Taronga Zoo
Sydney Aquarium/Wild Life Sydney Zoo
Moonlit Sanctuary

I've been to 11 different zoo's this year, only UK ones.
Good for 32 days out.

And this is only from April until December 2022.

* Dudley Zoo (Annual Pass) 6x
* Twycross 1x
* Cotswold 1x
* Hamerton (Annual Pass) 12x
* Hemsley 2x
* Wingham 1x
* Howletts 1x
* Fenn Bell 1x
* Port Lympne 1x
* Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park (Annual Pass) 5x
* Hoo Zoo 1x

2023 will be very exciting, as I'm finally going back "home" to Belgium, and my parents live near the Dutch & German border, so that'll be very interesting to see what will come our way.

Compared to a lot of users here I don't actually travel that much for zoos so this year was actually pretty good for me!

  • Chester Zoo (two visits)
  • Trentham Monkey Forest
  • Sea Life London
  • ZSL London Zoo
  • Bristol Zoo
  • Yorkshire Wildlife Park
  • Welsh Mountain Zoo
All of these were first time visits bar Chester and WMZ too.

I only managed to make it to 5 zoos this year (with a greater number of visits, the last two have been visited twice each in the last few months), a number I am intending to raise significantly next year;
- Chester Zoo
- Marwell Zoo
- Bristol Zoo
- Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park
- SeaLife Birmingham

Just two - Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park and the Birmingham Sea Life Centre

I was able to squeeze in a total of 21 zoos this year — finally breaking 20 for the first time! Of those 21 facilities visited, nine were entirely new-to-me facilities while 12 were repeat facilities, although some of those repeat facilities I had not visited in over a decade.

New Facilities:
  1. Frank Buck Zoo
  2. Ellen Trout Zoo
  3. Children’s Aquarium Dallas at Fair Park
  4. Topeka Zoo
  5. Kansas City Zoo
  6. St. Louis Zoo
  7. St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station
  8. Oklahoma City Zoo
  9. Abilene Zoo

Repeat Facilities:
  1. Dallas World Aquarium
  2. Dallas Zoo
  3. Caldwell Zoo
  4. Fort Worth Zoo
  5. Cameron Park Zoo
  6. San Antonio Zoo
  7. Memphis Zoo
  8. Nashville Zoo at Grassmere
  9. Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
  10. Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden
  11. Louisville Zoo
  12. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center
2023 might see some major life changes for me, yet again, so we will see if I will be able to break my personal record again next year — either way, I should still have a year filled with some exciting firsts and some enjoyable repeats all the same.
