Hyenas.

colchester zoo keep a spotted hyena, and i think its africa alive that keep striped hyena

Colchester house an elderly spotted, the only one in the UK, and a pair of Striped. Africa Alive hold a pair of striped, and produced three, parent-reared cubs about 5 years ago. Heythrop zoological gardens (not open to the public) may or may not still hold Striped Hyenas. They bred from theirs in the early 1990s, and I think those cubs were hand-reared. Those animals were trained by Jim Clubb, the owner of 'amazing animals' at Heythrop, and used in TV advertising (remember the car thieves public warning advert that used striped hyenas surrounding a car?) and at least one of the Harry Potter films.

Port Lympne held Striped and Brown Hyenas in the lower carnivore compounds either side of the bottom path (to the left of the lions) until they were 'retired' to homes in South Africa in the mid nineties. I have no idea whether they bred at any point, anyone?

Though not strictly hyenas, Twycross and Hamerton hold aardolves. Hamerton bred from theirs around 10 years ago.

The best place to see hyenas would currently be Beauval in France, where they are breeding Spotted hyenas.

i think twycross were looking at acquiring hyena at one point to go with their new developments. (as well as the aardwolves)

The pair of spotted hyenas from Bioparc (Valencia, Spain) breed a cub this year.

Colchester put the striped and spotted hyenas out on rotation, one day after the next, so you wouldn't be able to see both species together, I'm afraid. Tierpark Berlin keeps all 3 species of hyenas, as far as I know, the only place in Europe to do so.
