Chester Zoo Iblis

I got my first chance to see Iblis on Sunday. He and Asha seemed to be getting on very well and were staying close to each other.



Iblis should grow into a very handsome lion.





Even after such a short time at Chester, Iblis obviously feels at home already. On Sunday he felt the need to change the decor and edited the sleeping platform, yanking off a large plank to chew.



I'd say so far, so good with these 2.

Is breeding planned to go on beetween Asha and Iblis? He'll be sexually mature soon and Asha is still at a breeding age

That's the plan. Asha has bred before with Chester's previous male (Asoka) but unfortunalty all the cubs at genetic problems and only one cub out of the 3 litters survived. He was named Tejas, handreared and moved to France aged 6 months.

The zoo does plan to hopefully breed from Asha and Iblis. He should be mature in next 18 months so hopefully may father some cubs with Asha. However she will be almost 13. Hopefully she won't be too old to conceive.
