Impossible mixed enclosures

Are there any zoos that have tried(and were successful)at having 2 or more different species in the same enclosure that was thought to be impossible to do? If that makes sense. Like predictor and prey, animals that would never mix in the wild, animals with different temperaments etc.

What is the zoo and what animals are in this mixed enclosure? Thanks

Yes, there have been many. Taronga once mixed Chimpanzees with Black-backed Jackals, which as you would imagine did not end well. They then thought it was a good idea to mix chimps with Patas Monkeys, but thankfully this did not last long.

More recently, Taronga had to remove the White-lipped Tree Frogs from their Green Tree Python exhibit, as they kept trying to swallow the python. They also had to remove Northern Snake-necked Turtles from the Freshwater Crocodile exhibit due to aggression from the crocs.

Bronx Zoo tried mixing Ebony Langurs with Asian Small-clawed Otters. The langurs kept annoying the otters until the otters finally ganged up on the langurs and drowned one.

Burgers Zoo tried to have hornbills free-roaming in their tropical hall, only to find that they ate every amphibian, reptile, small bird and small mammal they could find.

Squirrel monkeys and macaws were a failed mix at both Adelaide and Melbourne, as the macaws would bully the monkeys.

I can't remember which zoo it was, but there was a failed attempt at keeping lions with meerkats.

I am sure other people have a lot more information.

I meant ones that have been successful.

Just went back and read your first post and saw that that is indeed what you meant. Sorry for my misinterpretation, I didn't read the question properly and assumed you were asking about mixes that have been unsuccessful.

That’s alright we all make mistakes.

While not exactly "impossible", Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium just debuted a Seahorse/Fiddler Crab mix. When whispers of it were going around a few months ago myself as well as many others in the field were surprised to hear about it but more in a "why hasn't anybody thought of that before" kind of way.

Wasn't there a wolf and beaver mix somewhere? That seems idiotic since beavers are a common prey for wolves.

There is at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's Wolf Wilderness exhibit and has been since 1997. I'm not sure if anything has ever happened, but...

From what I've heard from zoo employees, there has only been one time a beaver nearly was snagged by a wolf.

This one looks impossible:

Knowing how nasty zebras can be, I wouldn’t expect this to last….
It's been done for several years, with zookeepers closeby in jeeps as chaperons. Whether it's a good idea or not - now that's a different question.:p

Isn’t their a zoo in Scandinavia that mixes rhinos and cheetahs?
This combination is at a few zoos, usually with white rhinos but I think there is somewhere that does it with black rhinos too? Which might be the real "impossible" combination.
