A camera-trapping study in Akole, western India, has revealed that both leopards and striped hyaenas can live at high densities in densely-populated and heavily-modified agricultural environments. Despite the high density of both species and the lack of wild prey larger than black-naped hares, no reports of human fatalities exist in the study area. Other species recorded on the agricultural land included small Indian civets, Indian foxes, jackals, mongooses, jungle cats and rusty-spotted cats.
