Can anyone shed anymore light on Blackpool interested in keeping Indian rhino's?

Is there another zoo in europe that is called blackpool? and there where my confusion lies?

Well, Dublin comes from the Irish Dubh Linn, which means Black Pool, but otherwise I think there's just the one! (Sorry, just treat that as a fact of the day!)

I hadn't heard the Indian Rhino thing. They'd need to expand outwards to fit them in (or get rid of some other paddock animals...).

Thanks for the link, perhaps it looks as though, with the arrow, Madrid are transferring one or more of their animals to Blackpool, which is a sister zoo of Madrid as they have the same owners?

Good point, tried looking on ISIS but couldn't find them :(

Looking at the list of potential holders, i was surprised to see Fuengirola on there, this zoo is only a couple of acres in size, smaller than Whipsnades Indian rhino paddock!

Madrid keep 2.0.

Wonder where Blackpool would keep them?

They really haven't got the room unless they constructed a big paddock in the empty and rather underused central part of the zoo but the rhinos would soon make it very unnatractive..

I'm wondering if Blackpool just got mentioned somehow bcause its run by the same company as Madrid- or do Blackpool seriously want to get in on the act?

Possibly the elephant field? which is now apparently not used due to the elephants being under protected contact. I don't know where this is but I am under the impression it's separate from the rest of the zoo so it might not be an option

Yes this is where they originally planned to have white rhinos, its a shame the elephants dont use it anymore.

Or they could bother connecting the field to the house with proper fencing......rather than build giraffe houses, penguin pools and plan for Indian Rhino....just a thought.

I was at Blackpool last Saturday . The only construction I saw going on was I assume the new Penguin Pool opposite the sea-lions . Not large in area but high ( red concrete mountain-like structure ) with underwater viewing windows .

Highlights for me - the very lively breeding group of 9 Western black and white colobus ( 3 others hosed separately ) , three cute lion cubs out in enclosure with mum and the magnificent new male gorilla .

I was told that their female pileated gibbon has been paired with one of the new young males with regular mating , the old male is living happily with the other new male ( the keeper did not know where the 2 males came from ) . Saw very small markhor twins . Now 6 giraffe including calf born last year , the paddock is not very big .

The young male orang Ramon is bullied by the oldest female and was on his own . I was told they hope that when he matures more he will be big enough to stand up to her . The 12 year-old female Cherie looks very good , with long hair . The outside Orang enclosure is probably similar in size to the one at Twycross but has a much better climbing structure which the 2 young females were enjoying .

Blackpool did have white rhino when they opened, they shared the house with the elephants and giraffes and took it in turns to use the outside pen. They even bred at least one calf which went to China as a gift following the arrival of Chia Chia and Ching Ching in 1974.
