I will be visiting the Netherlands in April 2012 to visit some of your wonderful looking zoos and wondered if any of the locals (or otherwise) could update me on the situations regarding Serpo (Delft) and the Dutch Parrot Refuge (Veldhoven).

The last I heard was that Serpo had closed down but was looking to reopen sometime in the future and that the Parrot Refuge was planning to relocate.

I'd be grateful for any information on either of the collections and, more specifically if possible, what their situation will be in April 2012.

Thanks in advance.

To be honest, the answers aren't all that long ;)

Regarding SERPO;
The collection is still off-show somewhere. The owner is still looking for a new place to exhibit them, but it's proving rather hard. Last month the news came out that he was looking into moving into a building in Delft again, the city SERPO was forced to leave and they would like to get back to. If it ever happens, it won't be before april 2012.

NOP (the parrot refuge) is in negotiations with Libema (the organisation that owns "Dierenrijk (Mierlo)" and "Safaripark Beekse Bergen") to move in with Dierenrijk. As far as I know, the deal is struck between the two organisations but now the local government has to approve the move. Untill that happens, NOP will remain at it's current location in Veldhoven (near Eindhoven) and open to the public. I'm pretty sure that will be the situation in april 2012...

Thanks for your assistance with that. Looks like I'll be visiting Veldhoven and rueing the fact that Serpo remains "in limbo".

I certainly recommend visiting veldhoven. Been there 3 times now, they have amazing species(tropical birds - cotinga's/toucan/aracari's) and a unbelievable amount of parrot species!
