Inspired by Gentle Lemur

Hi all, having read Gentle Lemurs post regarding his photobook. I have been inspired to think about making one of my own. I just wondered if you may be able to help. Since starting on zoo chat just over two years ago i know that my photography has improved but just wondered if it has improved enough. I have a flickr site at Flickr: leethelionphotography's Photostream which contains some of my better photos.

I was wondering if you thought they where of good enough quality to make a photobook. I know at the end of the day its my money so its up to me whether i make one or not and what to include within it but would value your opinions on which photos if any should be included. Thank you.

Well, I must make a point. Unless your photos are really bad (which they are not) people on here will not tell you they are poor. But, in my opinion, your photographs are superb, far superior to my own. I think it would be a worthwile investment for you, but as you said, it is your money.

:o Wow! I've not had much practice at being an inspiration :o

I like your photos, particularly the ones with natural backgrounds of foliage etc, like the king colobus (at Blackpool I presume) and Franka at Chester.
I'm not going to try to encourage or discourage anyone. But I think that if you want to produce a book, you ought to have a clear answer to the question 'what is my reason for making a photobook?'
There are lots of possible answers which are perfectly valid (look at the Blurb website or their Flickr page to see some examples) - but unless you have a clear purpose, your book may not be particularly satisfying in the end.
I do have such an aim - although I haven't stated it in public before. I have been working on my book of grey seal photos because I aim that there will be a third version by this time next year, if I can include some even better photos from the autumn 2011 breeding season. Then if I am satisfied with the result, I would like to submit the book for a Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society: I have been an Associate for quite a few years, so I know that I am aiming for the very highest standard.

Thank you. I have been trying to get my photos to look as natural as possible try my best to avoid things like bars, glass etc.
The main reason for me to make a book would be to showcase my pictures really a lot of friends have asked for copies of them and think it may be easier that way. Also think it would be a nice record of my photos. The only thing I would have problem with would be any wording or how the photos would be layed out and how they would be sequenced.
