Back in 2022, Instituto Onça-pintada was fined over R$450.000,00 for the deaths of seventy-two animals, some of which were caused by alleged negligence. The NGO was also fined for not providing safe enclosures for said animals and for inappropriately exposing their residents when its illegal since it is under the status of "criadouro conservacionista" (conservation-oriented breeder).
