A program to help save Victoria's bird emblem from extinction has been successfully launched with the release of nine young Helmeted Honeyeaters into Bunyip State Park. It is estimated that only 100 Helmeted Honeyeaters remain in the wild. The birds are the latest graduates of Healesville Sanctuary's captive breeding program. The program supplements two wild populations of the critically endangered birds at Gembrook and Yellingbo.
