This is the one in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Do NOT mistake it for The Living Desert in California. (Very confusing; if it has the in front - California - if not, New Mexico). It is home to native animals of the Chihuahuan Desert, most of whom were rescued and unreleasable. Same concept as Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in my city of Tucson, but not as nice.
Still, it's not bad and it's worth a visit if you're in the area. Located on a bluff at the north entrance to town with a nice view. No restaurant, though, so plan on going before or after lunch. Typcial desert animals - puma, black bear, bobcat, mexican wolf, harris hawk, burrowing owl, rattlesnake, pronghorn, mule deer, javelina. Javelinas actually had the best exhibit, in a very realistic looking arroyo.
