Invasive Species

Anyone have any good books that are readily available in Canadian Libraries or Invasive Species, or any good websites?

J. Long wrote two books called "Introduced mammals of the world" & "Introduced birds of the world"(?). Don't know if they are available everywhere, but in a university you would find them. Those 2 are the most complete publications on this subject, I believe.

Actually, those two books simply list all the introductions - both failed and successful - and the reported effects if any. The books only cover birds and mammals.

A much better book to get which describes the mechanisms in detail, with plenty of examples, is "A Plague of Rats and Rubber Vines" by Yvonne Baskin (Island Press). As the title suggests it is not just limited to invasive animals but includes plants too.

Another title I have yet to read is "Out of Eden: An Odyssey of Ecological Invasion" by Alan Burdick. It's in my library in a pile waiting to be read. Some of my friends gave it good reviews though.

:p
