Blackpool Zoo announced the death of Amur tiger, Jagasar this morning, from their twitter site. Sad news. He was 18 years old, and the oldest Amur tiger in the UK

It's a very sad day here at Blackpool Zoo today. Our beautiful male Amur tiger, Jagasar, has been euthanased this morning. The decision was taken on veterinary advice following a period of ill-health due to his age. Jagasar was 18 years old and was thought to be the oldest Amur tiger in the UK. He was very popular indeed with our visitors and we are fortunate to have many photos of him over the years. As you can imagine, our keepers are all devastated at their loss, but we know that you'll be understanding as always.

That is sad I only saw him last month at Blackpool,I even posted a picture of him on here from that visit, because despite his age he was looking in fine form patrolling his territory!

Jagasar

This is very sad indeed, I visited Blackpool zoo in August and took some photos of him and posted them in the gallery, he was a magnificent specimen of a tiger and even at 18 years old he was still enjoying a dip in his pool even though the weather was not very warm on the day that I went.

That really is a great shame. Last time i saw him was in 2006 when he was in the old Tiger enclosure with his old mate Sheya.
He was a great-looking male Amur and he lived to a fine age.
He will be missed but remembered aswell. :)
