I just saw a video update on the progress of the ongoing jaguar reintroduction project in the Ibera Wetlands of Argentina. Five jaguars have moved into larger enclosures in preparation for a soft release. The five jaguars are:
Mbarete - A 1.5 year old male born in the Jaguar Reintroduction Centre
Arami - A 1.5 year old female born in the Jaguar Reintroduction Centre
Juruna - A 3 year old female from Brazil
Mariua - A 3 year old female from Brazil
Jatobazinho - A 3 year old male from Brazil

The jaguar reintroduction is part of a rewilding project that has also seen lowland tapir, giant anteater, pampas deer and green-winged macaw among other species returned to the Ibera Wetlands.

The video is included below:

From Facebook :

"WE WELCOME THE NEWBORN ""CORRENTINOS""!
⠀⠀⠀
We are closer to the end of a challenging year, marked by the pandemic that alerts us about the ways we damage the natural world and the species that share the planet with us.
⠀⠀⠀
But, in Iberá Park, northeastern Argentina, a new birth sheds a light of hope to recover what we've destroyed. A camera-trap video from the Jaguar Reintroduction Center confirmed what our rewilding team was suspicious about for some weeks.
⠀⠀⠀
Two newborn jaguar cubs are now part of the endeavor that seeks to return the top predator to this vast wetland after 70 years of absence in the province of Corrientes.
⠀⠀⠀
The two new ""correntinos"" are already part of this dream that has been taking huge steps since 2012. The jaguar has already returned to Corrientes."

Two weeks ago, female jaguar 'Mariua' and her two cubs 'Karai' and 'Pora' were released into the wild in the Ibera Wetlands. They are the first jaguars to roam freely in this area in 70 years.

The plan is to release another six jaguars over the course of the next year - initially the animals released will all be female, as they have smaller territories and disperse less which in turn encourages the cats to remain in the park. Once they are settled, male jaguars will be released as they could try and leave if females are not already present.
