Opened in June 1978, Jeonju Zoo is the third-largest zoo in South Korea, following Seoul Zoo and Everland Zoo. They are the biggest zoo in Jeolla Province, and in the past, they have housed numerous rare species in Korea (may not be rare in other zoos abroad), including Persian leopards, Indian leopards, Snow leopards, Gentoo penguins, and the African elephant. Also, the only Bornean elephant in Korea lives here.

Forest of Birds (새들의 숲)
Waterfowl Enclosure

Used to house Muscovy duck, Black-tailed gull, Pink-backed pelican

Peafowl Enclosure:
  • Indian peafowl
  • Domestic chicken
Previously, it was home for birds of prey. Now the birds-of-prey have moved to a larger enclosure

Otter Enclosure:
  • Eurasian otter
They are housed here because they are using the enclosure that previously housed waterfowl.

Forest of Beasts (맹수의 숲)

One of the most progressive zoos among the previously horrible zoos in Korea. Their elephant enclosure has significantly increased the size and has already accepted Indian elephants from the Seoul Children's Grand Park Zoo, since their elephant enclosure was too small.
