Opened in June 1978, Jeonju Zoo is the third-largest zoo in South Korea, following Seoul Zoo and Everland Zoo. They are the biggest zoo in Jeolla Province, and in the past, they have housed numerous rare species in Korea (may not be rare in other zoos abroad), including Persian leopards, Indian leopards, Snow leopards, Gentoo penguins, and the African elephant. Also, the only Bornean elephant in Korea lives here.
