My Family & Other Animals is the one book that's stuck in my head for almost 30 years ..... all my other O Level stuff went in one ear and out the other soon after the exam, but I guess that shows how well Gerald Durrell wrote.
It was interesting to read that Durrell isn't considered to be "people pleasing". I suppose that depends on the people ...... I have only been once, 5 years ago, and I was very pleased, but then I could happily stand and stare at orangutans and gorillas forever ... especially when they seem content and occupied and are living in family groups.
