Just wondering how many people are/were in a youth club run by your local zoo? Did you enjoy it, feel it influence your view on animals and your career, etc etc.
I'm personally in my final year of the Oryx Club at Marwell (I'll become a volunteer next year when I leave the club), a youth club for 4-17 year olds in three stages that's been running for 'bout 35 years now. They do monthly meetings which I've absolutely loved since joining at eight years old, and feel not only is it a good way to meet friends of a similar interest, but I feel influences a whole load of kids to appreciate animals and the natural world as a whole; no better way to make them the future inheritors of the planet then getting them out in the zoo once a month.
I don't see too many zoos running these nowadays, a shame given the influence they can have.
