I believe the dwarf croc is a female. Both wallaby species are always out together when I visit, I have never heard of them rotating before. If they do rotate, that is very new information.

Wow, this is actually a very good species list. Not knowing much about the development, I assumed it would be more on the generic side of things, being a zoo aquarium, but this is definitely not generic! It looks like inspiration was taken from a number of top aquariums, with a lot of the species lineups being similar to or the same as those found at Shedd or Monterey, and there are a number of other nice species as well.

Looks like I need to make a trip to KC, before this addition there wasn't too much that really stood out to me.

Did you see a hagfish in the aquarium? When I was there I asked a keeper and they said they didn't have them yet. I was so disappointed!
It sounds like they're still working on adding some of the species that are labeled (as seen with the Comb Jelly tank, there's a placeholder moon jelly in there atm). Specifically some of the Deep-Sea species, I saw one video of a recent tour and out of all the species, only the Giant Isopods & 1 Japanese Spider Crab was on display. It looks like they're still missing the Snipefish, Hagfish, Japanese Armorhead (they're labled as boarfish), Spotted Chimera / Ratfish, and more Japanese Spider crabs. Which I can understand since those aren't easy to get. But hopefully they're able to get them since right now from the videos at least, the Deep-Sea tanks look a little barren from the lack of species. Everything else looks pretty sweet though

When I went, they did have a couple of snipefish in the isopod tank.

Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium Species List 2025

Date of Visit : June 8, 2025

Species not seen are in italics

Species seen but not signed are in red

Notes
* There are a few species that have been signed in the aquarium that never seem to have gone on display since the building opened nearly two years ago. Those species will be marked with an asterisk.
* In the aviary in the Australia zone, there are supposedly Bali mynas that were recently announced on social media. I did not see them, and they were not signed, so they do not appear on my list.
* Three exhibits in the African zone were recently bulldozed to make way for the new giraffe house. Those exhibits included grey crowned crane, yellow-billed stork, and leopard tortoise. The storks appear to have been sent to other zoos.
* Last year in the penguin building, Tasmanian giant crabs were added. They were never signed, but they appear to have already left the collection, as I have not seen them recently.
