I just got my first Chakar Partridges.:D

I have two males and two females and am going to try and breed them. I will be buying an incubator soon.
They are much calmer and even nicer than I expected.

Does anyone have experiance with them.

I am also going to get phesants when I build a run for them.

I had them in Adelaide, they are really cool guys, they cant be mixed with smaller birds, i had them kill finches. I ended up keeping them like chooks and had mixed sucess, i prefer to have my birds incubate their owns eggs and raise their own young.
I fed them on what my other birds didnt eat, the waste seed aswell as any bugs they caught in their run.
They really are beautiful birds!

The bloke I got them off keeps his with quail and they all do well.

I was hoping to keep them with pheasents, but I have been told that the pheasents will kill smaller birds, such as partdridge.

I reckon these guys would be fine with smaller pheasants like Golden and Ringneck, but wouldnt put them with reeves and ones that size.

I just checked on when the bloke I got the partridges from has them with quail. He seperates them from the quail in the breeding season, as then they will attack other birds. He only keeps mixed species of young birds together.

I wouldn't keep them with pheasants will mess up with your breeding season. I kept them with rock pebblers without problems. Making them breeding their own eggs was an issue. Also watch out with the two males that they won't start fighting.

I have not got any pheasents yet. Last year I had one of my female partridges killed, possably by the other one, but I am not sure. I got three more females but could not put them with the original one as she wanted to kill all three. I put them with the other male in their own yard. The fertility from the 3 with one male was only about 50%, and the single female and male about 95%.

This year my breeders are in a much bigger yard and I have kept 8 females and four males.
