Kirkleatham owl centre news

And perhaps more interestingly a 0.1 Rufous hornbill called "MINNIE" has arrived.

Cool!

Looking at the illustration on Handbook of the Birds of the World Alive | HBW Alive, it looks to be a Southern Rufous Hornbill (Buceros mindanensis) and I would possibly suggest that it could be subspecies semigaleatus from the illustration (which would be really cool!).

Have a look at the illustration here, what do you think?

Here is Northern to compare.

Worth noting that this collection was the last place outside Mauritus to hold Mauritus Kestrel, incidentally. Considering the collection is only 6 miles away from me, I was seriously annoyed when I only discovered this fact after a news article in the local paper reported on the death of the final individual; I had never bothered visiting, not realising they held anything unusual :p I have visited since, however.

Can anyone confirm the sub-species of Rufous Hornbill or indeed where she came from ??

I have already asked on Facebook; if I do not get a reply within the next few days I will try to make enquiries when I next visit.

The above has been confirmed in a reply to my Facebook enquiry, along with the fact she will be off-display over the winter whilst heated on-show accomodation is constructed :)

The collection has announced the arrival of a pair of Himalayan Snowcock :) this represents only the second public collection outside of Russia holding this taxon within Europe; the other collection, of course, is Tierpark Berlin.

I wonder where the snowcocks came from. The pair has already laid a clutch of eggs!
