From the news item it is not - ATM - clear whether the fall and the fact she would not stand up and lay down 3 weeks hence are in any way related. At 25 years of age Luana was reported to suffer from several health issues related to old age. Only a full autopsy may reveal the actual cause of death or whether the fall may have been a contributing factor. Personally, I have an inkling that more her health issues in later life are the deciding factor in her passing. She reached a ripe old age at 25 and made her mark in giving birth to a good number of calves on the European Rothschildt's / Nubian northern giraffe population within the EEP/EAZA realm.
