Knowsley Safari Park Knowsley Safari Park News 2025

As I am so pleased to hear about Yuki settling in well into her new home she was abit nervous because I was told that the children can be abit noisy and it did spook her alittle

Visited knowsley today, no sign of the zebra, wildebeest, ostrich or roan antelope, does anyone know where they are located. Couldn’t see them at all, they may be off show.

The tiger trail is good and so it’s the new bear country but there is limited viewing space for the bears.

The old elephant enclosure looks completely derolict and it’s all bordered of with wooden fences. However whilst on the tiger trail, i could see a lot of work going on in the old elephant indoor house. I wonder if any developments are going to happen soon. What was supposed to have happens to the elephant enclosure by now?

Thanks for the update,
  • Zebra, Wildebeest & ostrich I believe are kept off show or in pens next to their houses during the winter months.
  • Shame about the viewing for the bears, I haven't been since they've arrived but nice to know what to expect
  • The elephant enclosure was supposed to be modernised for the giraffes to move into(well this was the plan about 7 years ago) it is a complete waste and even though I understand costs have rocketed but it would be great to see it updated and a walkway placed around it which would give great viewing and extend the foot safari. When the elephants were there, there was no tiger enclosure so this would increase the area for visitors having both.
  • Always thought with a lot or work(ie: build a mud wallow and pool) would make a great common hippo enclosure.
  • Whatever the future holds I really hope they listen to visitor complaints/views and make some changes as they have so much potential across the park.

Thanks for the info about the elephant enclosure previous plans. I agree it would make a good hippo enclosure. Also could be a good development area for a giraffe enclosure too.

The bear country only has 1 viewing area that’s what the downside is even though the enclosure itself looks great.

Also some areas of the drive look a bit empty, for example the Eurasia section. Only a herd of fallow dear and a pair of bison in there. Could do with some more, maybe a new group of moose would be great.

Foot safari has so much potential. Lots of unused land, but the sea lion pool needs a major upgrade. The woods next to beat country that previously held moose is also a good space for a new exhibit.

Again, thanks for the info.

@Willem123 thanks for your info, I didn't realise there is only 2 bison left:eek:

I know they kept albeit years ago, Cape Buffalo. Now as we know these can't be just free roaming on the drive through as they're too dangerous, but surely they could create a drive past enclosure? I believe there is only one UK zoological collection(Howletts) that keeps this species so personally would be a huge plus for Knowsley.

Regarding the Eurasia section I personally wouldn't want to see moose back here as I think they're not that easy to spot.
Maybe Red deer to add to the Fallow they already have?
Fingers crossed they've got some exciting new species lined up for the not too distant future

What are people’s opinions on the sea lions show and enclosure. Personally i think there’s no need for a sea lion show, it doesn’t display natural behaviours. Yorkshire wildlife park don’t do one and the sea lions look a lot happier than what i saw yesterday at knowsley. The outdoor pool at knowsley is so small, i would knock down the sea lion show building and extend the habitat or relocate the sea lions to another collection

Dies anyone have a link to this year's inventry stock take or previous year's?

1:2 Ostrich have arrived in the last week. No idea where from or if they still have any of the original flock.
Couple of years back they received a 1:2 that lived with the original 0:2 but these may have all died out by now.

They are on the safari drive anyhow

Just checked the app and Grevy zebra no longer show up, anyone seen them on recent visits this year? I hope they've still got them

Last time I went (end of March) there was no sign of them and I'm pretty sure the doors were closed on the housing they've been in

Cheers for confirming sad though that's another species lost off drive through. Would've thought they'd have been out on drive through at this time of year so someone would've seen them.

Makes you wonder what future plans for the drive through management have in store for Knowsley. It's not looking great

I agree. I've just renewed my membership (if there wasn't the renewal discount I would probably have thought twice about it) Might try and get up there today if the weather forecast improves and if do go I'll try get a space on the bus and see what the driver/guide does or doesn't say about them

Do you still have to pay for the guided tour as a member or is it included in your membership?
Hope you have a great day if you go. Would be great to hear an overall review if you get chance:)

They used to have 3 levels of membership, I was a gold and with that you got 1 free ride on the baboon bus per year but now it's all just all 1 level and get 20% off Baboon Bus tickets.

I'm here now. They definitely aren't where they were as these are in there now. Am on baboon bus tour later so will see if driver will divulge anything if can't find a ranger/keeper.IMG_20250601_123013332.jpg

I asked ranger on the entrance to the lions, he said it's not his section so doesn't know much of the details only that they both died.

Shame the Kiang have moved from the Asia section.

Gutted about the Grevys both dying hope they get more in.
Hope there was a good view of all the animals on safari drive

Copied from social media. Question is where were they kept before?

Who’s that with the lechwe, buffalo and ostrich?

The Somali wild ass have officially joined the Africa section of the Safari Drive!

Watch them explore their new space, and don’t forget to wave hello when you pass by.

Were they at the end of the carnivore section, opposite the wolves? If so I'm glad they've moved as could never see what was in there before behind the large wooden fencing so I ended up just driving straight passed but can see them clearly now in the Africa section
