Pawilon dla ptaków
The new bird house opened today.
Some species on show - hyacinth macaws, southern ground hornbills, gallahs, red-breasted toucans, avocets, rollers...
Here an excerpt of a media article:
The bird house put into use was designed in such a way as to provide its residents with comfort and the most optimal living conditions. The total area of the building is 460 m² with a cubic capacity of 1430 m³, and the 12 aviaries and internal rooms are 5 m high. All are equipped with glass panels, allowing visitors to observe the birds also in the winter, as well as cameras, thanks to which their behavior can be constantly monitored.
Sprinklers have been installed in the bird house to ensure proper humidity. The temperature in each room can be adjusted to the optimum appropriate for the species kept there. The lighting in the internal rooms allows for changing the light intensity, imitating its daily cycle.
The service section includes a kitchen, rooms for storing food intended for current consumption, as well as a room where it will be possible to artificially hatch and rear chicks. The keepers working in the bird house will have a changing room equipped with toilets and showers at their disposal.
The building also houses a boiler room with a fuel oil storage room, a utility room for storing equipment necessary to maintain the entire facility, and technical rooms and a ventilation room.
As Grega reported, the investment cost approximately PLN 7.8 million and was financed entirely from the own funds of the foundation managing the Kraków Zoo.
The zoo director emphasized that the new aviary is another stage in adapting the garden to modern requirements. "In principle, investments in zoos never end, because there are always new guidelines and we always try to improve the conditions for our animals," Grega noted.
She reported that another facility is currently being built - an enclosure for chimpanzees and Japanese macaques, which is to be ready in the middle of next year. The reconstruction of part of the so-called small cats is also in the queue.
