Turns out you've guessed correctly, the zoo have just announced masked lapwings fir the aviary! It doesn't specify how many, the photos show at least three. It's probably safe to say at this point that this new aviary is Australia themed, and the next couple of species going in there will also be Australian.

Sad news…any indication if they will be continuing with the species or bringing in something new?
I imagine they would get more snow leopards, mainly because images of snow leopards are all over the zoo's marketing and branding, in their logo, on the welcome sign as you drive into the car park, and even on the staff uniforms. That being said, it's also completely possible that all of that branding could be changed and something goes in the old enclosure, we'll have to wait and see.

Sad news, always the highlight of any visit and was always a showcase species for such a small collection. Whilst the enclosure was certainly not the smallest in the UK, I would not be surprised to see the enclosure revamped before new leopards arrived. It could certainly be made higher and the indoor section could definitely be made larger, and there was land all around the enclosure unused previously which could be see increase in size. In it's current state its obviously had Leopards breed and live there successfully, but it does feel outdated and small now, and this probably gives them opportunity to redevelop the enclosure, before bringing the species back. It would be a shame to see them go out of the species, but the current exhibit probably does need modernising.
