Interesting. I had never heard of this zoo before, and thought it was supposed to be the Langkawi Wildlife Park, but it is a zoo which only opened this year with (according to their website and Facebook page) eighty species of wild animals.

That (very anti-zoo) article repeatedly uses words like "reportedly" and "unconfirmed". The zoo's Facebook page has a statement that the chimp died of chronic renal failure after failing to respond to treatment.

That statement on their Facebook page appears to have been removed since this morning.

I have since seen it is still on their Twitter feed though.
