If my memory serves me correctly all the males have had the snip while they were at Chessington as they didn`t want any more young from them,i believe Chester got the Gibbons to gain experience of keeping them again before another species was brought in.
No problem if i can find my notes i will post a list of the species Chester have mentioned about keeping once the Lars have gone.Cheers Zoogiraffe,
It all comes flooding back now!

not sure if it was for chester to gain experience with them though!!!! more like if the orangs caught them and pulled them to pieces then no great loss (i'll take my cynical hat off now!)

So they were obtained so that Chester could gain experience in keeping them as a mixed exhibit with Orangutans, without risking a rarer Gibbon species.
It seems to have been a successful experiment. My personal choice of a replacement species would be Pileated but they probably want one that is geographically correct.
