Arrivals:

Was this the long awaited import of more peninsular pronghorn from Mexico?

Maybe the zoo has plans to introduce a new male soon. Though the news is a bit sad, seeing how well the pair seemed to have gotten along.

Actually, I believe that the pair that was at the zoo was a mother/son pair. I would also think the zoo would want to keep the male if they want to breed Ocelots considering the female is rather old.

There could be a totally new pair introduced soon then. This space has proven quite successful for exhibiting and breeding Ocelots.

Is Harapan already at the zoo? If so, when did he get there, since these are the news from October?

EDIT: Ituri beat me to it.

Has anybody heard if Harapan is going to be living in a public exhibit at the LA Zoo? I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't, but then I can't believe that San Diego Zoo has their tuataras and dholes on permanent non-exhibit and they obviously do.

Or the St. Louis Zoo and their Tuataras. There is a display for them in the Reptile House, but on my three visits to that zoo it was always empty. I once read that you can make a request to view them to a keeper, but I don't know how true that is.

Thanks for the list.

Interesting that the zoo just sent the last Japanese Serow to another zoo. Considering that pair had been successfully breeding for some years I'm not surprised they were sent to different zoos. I just wonder if they will be replaced with another pair or with a completely different animal.

In the new issue of Zoo Scape, the director leaves room for them returning in the future. After all, we were the first zoo in the Western Hemisphere to ever exhibit them back in 1976. Compliments of our sister city Nagoya, as a gift to commemorate America's Bicentennial. We reciprocated by sending them a pair of Rocky Mountain Goats. I believe the first ever shown in Japan.
