Leeches as indicators

This is a really cool study, possibly opening up a wide range of applications!
 
Didn't read the whole article, but very interesting the bits I did read!
 
That's amazing. I had no idea that the DNA would be viable for so long. I wonder how expensive it is to perform these kinds of experiments - they infer that it's much cheaper than might be expected.

It's 3 years since the article was published so I wonder whether sufficient advancements have been made and whether the technique is more widely used now.
