Chester Zoo Leia's Baby has been named

Leia's baby is called Latifah, Arabic for delicate/sensitive.

I gained this information by e-mailing the zoo.

Leia is bornean orangutan, it easily missed if you know the animals by name.

Just looking at the Chester Zoo site and I'm having trouble finding any mention of Latifah - is she OK?

Saw her today and indeed both Bornean babies look great.

I took a couple of pictures of Iznee with (I think) two different females and I wondered if anyone can confirm who is who please. I'm pretty sure Leia was with Latifah all this time and all 3 females were out.

No 1 looks (to me) like the one I was told was Sarikei.



No 2 Is this Martha? I'm pretty sure they are not the same, this one has more hair on her cheeks and less pronounced creases.

They do resemble each other, but Martha has a higher forehead with fewer wrinkles, while Sarikei has more prominent flanges on the sides of her face - which make look a little more masculine.
So I agree with your suggestions above.

Thank you, I found another one of the one in the hammock on her own and she does look like your picture of Martha.

Studying the photos I noticed an easier distinction: the tops of Martha's nostrils are arched, but Sarikei's are pointed.

Went again today and used the 'nostril test' to be sure Iznee was with his mum!
