Lemur Walk Thrus

Looking at pictures of red-fronted lemurs on Flickr, the white head patches and red sideburns look about right.

Last week we were able to take a look at the new walk-through lemur enclosure at the Welsh Mountain Zoo. It has some promise, although it's not so much a walk-through, as a "walk-out onto balcony and walk back".

There is one lemur species already in residence, although I can't identify what species exactly and ISIS doesn't have any listed for the collection so suggestions would be welcome. Originally I thought they might be red-fronted lemur (Eulemur rufus), but bongorob didn't seem to think so.

A small collection of photos are here: http://goo.gl/P34Tx

Thanks for posting :), I may have to get a visit in before my annual August visit.

WMZ is a very nice place and it's nice to see a development, certainly one of my favourite small zoos.

EDIT: The lemurs at Welsh Mountain Zoo are red-fronted.

It's always surprised me that Jersey hasn't built a walk-through lemur enclosure yet, when practically every other zoo seems to have one now. I quite like lemur walk-throughs, and the general public certainly like them. Woburn has one of the best, and it's even possible to gently stroke the Ruffed Lemurs. Lemur walk-throughs are definitely a lot more interesting than wallaby walk-throughs, where it's extremely rare for any other macropod species to be exhibited other than the all-too-ubiquitous Red-necked Wallaby (South Lakes aside).
