The website is almost impossible to navigate, ( coming from the AZA which has everything in a nice little pulldown list by state)
Looking for Zoos primarily.
Looking for Zoos primarily.
I wouldn't mind the map way of doing things ( although I think they have too many members in such a small area ( in comparison to the US) to make it easily navigabile) if the links actually worked or if they stayed popped up when you click on it .Check their annual report for 2023 - it has a list of members starting at page 50.
However, it differentiates their membership status by COLORS thus not easily copied for any practical use.
Annual report
And I agree with you that the website is pretty un-intuitively done. Poor job.
Wikipedia's where I went next, and it seemed way too short in comparison to the 350ish members so it's good to know that my instincts were rightWikipedia has an easier readable list as well (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria - Wikipedia), but it's not up to date. The annual report as listed by Jana should be the one that is currently valid. Not sure why EAZA doesn't offer a better list online.
Two more questions
One, am I correct in assuming that using the eaza zoos is a guideline for the ethicalness of them?
And are canadates for membership, ones that meet the standards, or are they ones in process?
Ah, that makes sense. Thank youThere's a wide bunch of aspects candidates have to fulfill to become a member, ethics is one of them. Standards of animal care, conservation, education and research have to be proven as well. You can find more about it here: EAZA accreditation
Just confirming that it would be the analog to the aza for people that are planning the trip.
Candidates for membership usually are those who applied for the process but are not checked yet. Temporary members are those who were full members but had too many issues in their last screening and need to work on them.
