Zoo Ljubljana Ljubljana Zoo

Yes, they replace European red deer and Common fallow deer.
I am a little sad that the zoo has separated themselves from the local native deer species. It is as yet important that local species ex situ conservation and native wildlife and habitats is celebrated at the zoo.

In various other parts of S.E. Europe the European fallow deer and the red deer are part of local recovery efforts!? What is the status of the larger deer and roe deer in Serbia?

Hm, recovery efforts for deer in Slovenia? o_O More than 70% of Slovenia is covered by forest. Hunters shoot between 7,000 and 9,000 European red deer every year. The population is still growing. Common fallow deer is a non-native species in Slovenia.

In 2024 they get three Eastern quolls . Three males come from Parco Faunistico La Torbiera, Italy, but of course, they are part of Zoo Leipzig's Eastern quoll project.

Two cheetahs, brother and sister from Boras (Djurpark), which came to Zoo Ljubljana in 2013, died last year. In August this year, their enclosure was populated with antoher species that has been seen in Ljubljana for the first time: Maned wolf. Two sisters come from Zoo Brno, Czech Republic.
