I was going to do this as an April Fool but I thought most of you would see straight through it. Our various visions of future London seem to be a common topic of conversation so I tried to collate them all into one. Pipe-dreaming again, I guess.

What do you reckon?

That zoo masterplan would be a dream come true for many Brits...but seriously now, I suppose that London Zoo is steadily improving its enclosures due to the Summer Olympics in 2012?

Here in Vancouver, Canada, we are hosting the Winter Olympics in 2010 and the Vancouver Aquarium is spending $80 million Can. on large outdoor pools for beluga whales, dolphins, sea otters and steller sea lions.

London Zoo's new developments are currently following a masterplan that was drawn up in 2002 by Terry Farrell & Partners architects, well before the 2012 Olympics win was announced. I don't think ZSL will have planned their resources to budget for any additional developments before 2012, especially with their commitment to the Biota aquarium at Silvertown Quays.

Still, I like your thinking Chris. Personally I think that London should integrate their reptiles and amphibians into the aquarium (moving some of the fish to Biota). Instead of building a Frog World (which we know is on the cards), do a walk-through Madagascar exhibit like Cotswold's new one. I would like to see geladas mixed with Nubian ibex on the Mappin terraces. I would also probably go with a sea lion pool rather than hippos. Thumbs up to the Spanish wolves and nocturnal/Australian themed exhibits!

I'm not sure about that walk-through wolf enclosure  and I think the flamingos aren't in the ideal place either, but the rest looks very good to me.

Meant to be raised walkway, that area's sloping, isn't it?
Thanks for good comments.

Really great except the Lions, i love those Sloth Bears and also the flamingoes are not in a great area there.

Having thraed that thread, woudnt a South American theme be better with spectacled Bears, oatis, Howlwer Monkeys and maybe some aviarys at the side for Scarlet Ibis, black Necked Swans and Spoonbills. Would Spectacled Bears attack or are they a gentle species??

Only 3 places in the U.K keep Spectacled Bears and out of those only Chester has had no problems with the Bears and the fellow exhibit companions!!!!!!!!!!!So far but you never know
