Hi all

I am in the process of writing a novel and would like to know if any of you remember London Zoo in 1997. I am setting a scene there and would like to know what the exhibits were like as well as what or some of the animals. Did they have lions and such?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm 99% sure they did have Lions at the time but I'm sure someone will come along shortly and confirm for certain.

Your best approach might be to pick up an old guide book or two (they're "ten a penny") from e-bay which'll give you some idea of the animals held, enclosures and placings (via the maps) at the time.

Yes lions were there in 1997, as were tigers. On the Casson lived three Asian elephants and two black rhino. The Mappins reopened that year as "Bear Mountain" with Asian Sloth bears, gibbons and peacocks. Camels lived in the new Ambika Paul Children's zoo and there were still penguins in the Lubitkin pool.
