Malayan Tapir Births

As well as the recent birth at Edinburgh, ISIS is now showing Malayan tapir calves born recently at both London and Twycross zoos. This would explain why the tapir house has been closed recently.

So does anyone know what the situation is with RSCC as a holder of this species? Did someone say that the last Edinburgh calf was to be relocated there? I'm assuming that the howletts pair returned from the RSCC to Port Lympne given the recent rise in numbers of this species there.
 
It really seems the Malayan tapir Tapirus indicus is making a come-back in European zoos. It is really great news that both London (1.0 calf) and Twycross (0.0.1 calf) are now also listed as having produced an offspring this year.

That is close on to Edinburgh's female calf during the summer/autumn 2008and Port Lympne male calf in spring 2008.

I wonder how you come to the conclusion that a male has been transferred back to Port Lympne from the new endangered species facility in the UK. How come this?
 
The 1.1 tapirs at RSCC had come from Port Lympne originally via Howletts. As noted elsewhere on this forum, a dispute opened up between the owner of RSCC and Damien Aspinall, resulting in various loaned stock being demanded back....

On ISIS, the 1.1 Malayan Tapirs at the RSCC vanished at the same time as the number of Port Lympne animals rose by 2-3 individuals. As I said, it was an assumption, but basesd on the above, apparent, movements.

Another possibility would be that the old male at RSCC passed away, making it logical that the first Edinburgh calf, a male, would be moved to join the younger female (as someone else has posted on here, not my information), in which case ISIS would just be experiencing another glitch and in actual fact Malayan tapirs would not have left RSCC entirely at any point.

If anyone can shed any light on what actually happened?
 
As far as i know the old pair where returned and they received the young male from edinburgh!

Our female is also pregnant again and due to give birth in may! the twycross calf is female!
 
That is fantastic news. How many calves has your female tapir now had? They seem to breed successfully almost every year.
 
off the top of my head this will be her 8th! :) the female at london which just gave birth was born here!:)
