This is a rough species list for Maleny Bird World as of 6th October 2024 which currently houses 600+ individual birds across five walkthrough aviaries which are divided loosely into (1) finches and softbills, (2) Australian parrots and lories, (3) non-contact large parrots, (4) small exotic parrots and (5) interactive large parrots. I was surprised to see that the place has added several more sensitive species into their aviaries like the kingfishers, three species of fruit-dove and a pair of Regent Bowerbirds. The Nicobar Pigeons have settled in quickly and were nesting. Visitors are not free to visit at their own leisure but must be part of a 50-minute guided tour. You can however sit in front of the aviary and observe the birds from the outside to get a fuller picture of the species in there. There were a few species missing that I saw in 2019 that I didn’t see like Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo and Moluccan Cockatoo. A few strange hybrids about as well. I didn’t include some of the more obvious domestics. There are some rare exotic lories and lorikeets are at the place currently as well which are probably not kept at any other Australian public facility.
