The new strain of bird flu that is decimating colonial sea birds along Atlantic coast of Europe for last 2 years, has finaly reached inland country Czechia (sad emoji).
First mass mortality within large gull colony on fish ponds in Mutěnice (SE Czechia) was reported around 1th April. After few days, the number of affected colonies is growing. So far 5 large colonies have positive laboratory tests back. This is probably just the beginning.
While this was expected development, it also means it will soon spread to new gull colonies frequently visited by our black-headed gulls. Poland, Hungary, Adriatic coast, along Danube river to Danube delta, Black sea, Greece.
