Meet the red pandas

Red pandas got a feature story in the New York Times. It covers efforts to research and breed them in captivity and their conservation in the wild. I learned a lot.

I think a lot of us zoo nerds get blase about how cool red pandas are because they are common in zoos, but they are very interesting animals and important conservation symbols for their habitats.

I agree on all counts, but with only five hundred in captivity globally one would think they'd be rarer. We have three at San Francisco now.
