Just got back from the zoo, really enjoyed my first members day!
Walking briefly through, I saw that the Village Weavers in the Tsavo Aviary were nesting.
Next and a major highlight was the meerkats. Three pups were out exploring the world - they were absolutely adorable and very entertaining.
The Przewalski's Wild Horses were still there, and the Roan Antelope had once again forced the Red Lechwe into the smaller paddock.
There was no sign of the Dik Diks.
There were two young Vicuna, but the news was not so good with the spectacled bears: Sangay and Franka were separated. Franka was on the 'coati side' of the exhibit and sangay was on the side nearest to the viewing area.
Whilst crossing the bridge there was no sign of the Warty Pig young or Iblis the Lion.
I was pleased by the changes in Islands in Danger. Both the Iguana enclosures and the new male komodo dragon Troopa looked like they were settling into their new homes very well.
As for Tropical realm I cannot say the same. The radiated tortoises and poison dart frogs both looked lost in such large exhibits.
I could see where the Pudu were kept and where the Giant Anteaters were going to be kept temporarily.
Another highlight of the visit was the Giant otters. New female Icana arrived on Wednesday before being introduced to Xingu on Thursday. They were extremely playful and used all of their enclosures. On the downside, they are not easy to photograph. Nonetheless, a very good exhibit which I believe to be better than the sealion enclosure.
As my visit came to a close, I got my free monorail to the Monkey Islands station before having my free drink in Tsavo Cafe :)

To the best of my knowledge there is no gate between the paddock that the Roans Paddock and what used to be the Emu and Wallaby enclosure so how could the Roans have forced the Kafue Flats Lechwe into the smaller paddock?

The Vicuna young were born a good few months ago now,as for the Spectacled Bears did you speak to somebody as to why they are separated or are you just guessing thats its bad news because they are separated?

Sorry, I meant that they had been moved into the Emu and Wallaby enclosures.

Yes, I thought those Vicuna young looked big.
As for the Spectacled Bears that is a guess...

Well the Lechwe were moved into that paddock before December last year so not a recent move.
I do wish people wouldn`t guess at things they see is it very qucikly becomes fact on here when 90% of the time its not true.

My Apologies.
I guess the lechwe is another mistake on my behalf...

Its a bit harsh though, I took the interpretations haz_cat made as exactly that, I don't think there will be shockwaves reverberating through zoochat just becuase someone thought they saw a baby vicugna and thought it was bad that the bears were kept separately. I like these little reports people make and I go somewhere else if I want peer-reviewed research.....

Well I`m sorry if you found it a bit harsh if you want what people think is happening to become fact on here instead of the what is actually happening then thats fine just add me to your ignore list and you will not have to see any post I put up that you may find harsh.

Noticed today that some work is being carried out in the Zebra/Oryx enclosure not sure whats going on here?

Thanks Lee. I'm only speculating, but maybe they are taking the ditch fence down, and creating a larger, mixed exhibit?

Well everyone else does, and a high percentage of posts are all speculatory.

I'm sure it will all become apparent soon enough

Not sure if you're allowed to speculate:)
Seeing as thats a dig at me I will respond I have no problems with people speculating about things when they state that they are speculating, its when they don`t that can and does cause problems,of things becoming fact when they aren`t!

Maybe a good resolution to this 'speculation problem' is by asking Tim Rowlands on the walk-and-talk today - could anybody ask on my behalf why the Bears are separated? (The other resolution is I can e-mail the zoo)

Not a problem I will ask the question but I`m pretty certain I already know the answer.

And are you allowed to post the answer :) ?
The answer is the posts are in the ground still but the wires seperating them are not meaning the Bears are mixed and have been since earlier in the week, the posts are still in the ground just in case they need to split them again.
