This is not a new road trip thread but it is simply a brief explanation of the new photos and reviews that I have posted on this site. I have had perplexed messages and so this will be a short explanation.
I am a high school teacher in Abbotsford, British Columbia, and together with 4 others at my school I attended a two-day Assessment Conference in Portland, Oregon, on December 5th and 6th. Naturally I decided to drive down by myself so that I could tack on some very small wildlife facilities that I'd never visited before.
Wednesday, December 4th: The Reptile Zoo & Living Museum + Portland Aquarium
Saturday, December 7th: Cascades Raptor Center + Oregon Undersea Gardens + Hatfield Marine Science Center + Oregon Coast Aquarium + drive 8 hours home...yikes!
Of the attractions there was 5 out of 6 that I'd never before toured and so that was an exciting adventure. Seeing the Oregon Coast Aquarium for the 3rd time was as thrilling as ever and that is a superb establishment. I'm now up to 185 different zoos/aquariums in my life.
There will eventually be a full review and set of photos for each of the 6 facilities, and many of you have already seen the photos that I've uploaded. As luck would have it there was an incredible snowstorm in central Oregon on Friday, December 6th, and at one point the Interstate 5 highway was closed for hours. I managed to slip and slide my way to the Cascades Raptor Center early Saturday morning only to find it closed due to the weather, but I am especially grateful for the volunteer who graciously gave me a one-on-one, hour-long tour after I truthfully pleaded that I'd driven 8 hours all the way down from Canada.
