Hi Guys,
Great to be back. I haven't been around for a couple of years and have lost touch with the Chimps at Monkey World Dorset.
I have long studied the dynamics of Chimp society.
The last I knew the hierarchy's of the groups were:

Paddy
Jimmy
Paco

Butch
Buxom
Jestah

Hananya
Tico
Simon

How are the hierarchy's now and how are they evolving?

I remember a youngster called Bob who would have made a great leader, shame!!

Maybe have a look at the Monkey World section where all news is posted.

Paco is in the Bachelors now and seems to have a bit of a timeshare going on with Butch, Buxom & Jestah are still a big force. Jimmy is in the Bachelors but not high ranked.

Paddy's ladies are a fearsome bunch but Busta is said to be second in command although the day after I enquired about Gamba's ambitions to be 2ic and was told it was definitely still Busta I heard someone giving the talk at Paddy's say Gamba was second! So who knows!

It is Hananya & Tikko although Peggy and Cherri have been said to be second to Hananya semi-seriously at the talk. Tikko is not a very big presence as second and seems to be more interested in the 'getting it on with the ladies' part of the role with less of the 'backing-up' part.

Ben moved from the nursery and blossomed amazingly in the Bachelors and looks (and believes) he could be a future leader.

The new female Kiki in Hananya's has been a great addition and seemed to bring a lot to the maturing group.
 
Not on the whole, they have had small number of births but seem to have not had any 'accidents' since 2005 although they did, and may again, allow a very occasional chimp to breed (ie Susie was allowed to have Bart because she was such a good mother with Eddi (an accident) and the group benefitted enormously.)

In about 25 yrs, with 40ish chimps living in mixed groups they've had about 9 or so babies that I can recall off-hand.
 
Re size, it's hard to compare, Paddy has always been a pretty impressive chimp almost gorilla-ish, Hananya is probably pretty big but you don't see him as close as you see Paddy, Paco is a big lad. I'm not really so familiar with Butch but I don't think he stands out like Paddy does.

Most of the non-top males are castrated so eg Simon is a very big chimp but in a gangly way.
