It appears that Lex Salisbury, director of the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, FL, has lost some Patas Monkeys from his under construction safari park in SW Florida.

The safari park is planned to open next year and hold animals on loan from the Lowry Park Zoo. This park is an enterprise of Lex Salisbury and other like-minded people - not the zoo. The question has been raised if it is appropriate for the zoo director to profit from the non-for-profit, government owned zoo's animals. What do you guys think?

I read the article, but I still don't understand how this benefits the zoo. They mentioned giving the animals a break from the zoo...but how? By putting them on display in what is a glorified zoo somewhere else so someone else can get some admission fees?

Very weird. It really sounds like Salisbury needs to step down from one of the positions.

I guess I missed the great escape story in the first post. They swam a 60-foot moat? That's shocking.
 
The benefit for the zoo is to use the Safari Wild property as a holding facility for the zoo's collection. But there are a lot of questionable factors in the zoo/Safari Wild relationship.
 
If there's no such thing as bad publicity, Safari Wild will be a booming enterprise before long. On the other hand ...
 
Hope they can all get it together, in time, monkeys please out of trouble!
