can you confirm that Binturong smell of popcorn by any chance, that's the reported odour and the keeper I spoke to siad yes he thought they had an aroma of buttered popcorn - what is your take on this?
 
It's true, more or less. They do have a very peculiar smell. Whether or not it's buttered popcorn is something that probably can be debated, but I think it's pretty close. It's not as nice as you might think though, after spending a few hours in a can with one it's enough to make you sick...
 
They themselves dont smell ,when they get frightened they let off a spray which might smell a bit like popcorn ,but ours never do that as they are used to us

I've stroked a tame one- the smell on my hands afterwards was extremely like buttered Popcorn.

The binturongs held by Edinburgh Zoo have a very strong smell of popcorn, which is easily perceptible in the area around their enclosures.
